Public Pools & Spas Chemistry

Chlorine is used in pools to maintain it bacteria and algae free; it is a sanitizer (disinfectant), oxidizer, algicide and it can hold a residual value in the water.
Without Chlorine (or Bromine), there is significant risk for bacteria to grow in the water and potentially make you sick.

“Typical chemicals used include muriatic acid (an archaic name for hydrochloric acid), sodium bisulfate, carbon dioxide, sulfuric acid, and sodium carbonate. Sodium bicarbonate also works, it has a greater effect on the total alkalinity of the water than it does on the pH.

With the Aqua Biolight PhotonTransmitter installed as Peripheral Hardware the initial amount of Chlorine (Bromine) on your pool system can be significantly reduced. Together with the back-up of an Oxygen generator
or -compound, soft UltraSonic, and/or UV device you can drastically further reduce the total amount of chlorine that you need. Up to an 80% reduction of the amount of chlorine that you use in a year is within reach, and a much better idea than trying to run a Public Pool completely chlorine free.

You must control of course pH and Alkalinity, respectively the Hardness and Conductivity.
You can do this with all kind of compounds to push pH up or pH down and stabilize Total Alkalinity within the preferred limits of 80-120 ppm.
Additional to minimized use of chlorine products, one can add pH up: 10% NaHCO3 solution and Borax 50ppm to user`s need (neutral, Stabilizer, also prevents blue and green Algae growth. Borates stop the algae cell from both producing food (photosynthesis) and then eating it (metabolism).
pH down: With Cyanuric Acid (C3H3N3O3, it serves as a protection shield for chlorine against sunlight. The Sun's ultraviolet rays degrade chlorine very quickly, creating a problem for outdoor pools. ... A chlorine stabilizer is needed, otherwise you will be using (and losing) chlorine all day, every day in case of Chlorine Pools.
pH down: With NaHSO4
(common use for pH down).

Alternatively with CO2 (if all safety precautions can be met!).

The limitation of systems such as UV and UltraSonic is that they do not hold a residual value in the water. Chlorine can be added to a minimal extend on Public Pools, also to comply with the Regulations. You can rely on the Peripheral Equipment to do the heavy lifting, so to speak, and let the chlorine kill anything that is free floating in the water.

Aqua Biolight is an effective way to eliminate bacteria in swimming pool water and can be used on almost every type of pool and adapts easily to existing systems. It does however not eliminate algae and/or prevent algae growth. The remaining free chlorine is taking care of that. This amount (approx. 40% of the common amount, i.e. 0,8ppm instead of 1,3 to 1,5 ppm), however might be needed to back-up the sanitizing effect of Aqua Biolight.
A UV Generator, and/or a soft-UltraSonic device can be installed, which adds a frequency energy to the recycle pool water, thereby disturbing the algae growth and further reducing the amount of Chlorine to be added to 20% or less.

The advantages of the safe, green Aqua Biolight technology
and additional Peripheral Hardware:

Can reduce the use of chlorine and other chemicals by up to 80% and more.
Is effective against all micro-organisms except for Algae (Algae is life),
greatly improves the water quality and creates a comfortable environment for bathing.
No red eyes or skin irritation, no problems for people with asthma or allergies.
It reduces the chance of Chloramines build-up on the water surface to nihil.
It reduces the use of supporting chemicals for water treatment (pH and Alkalinity Stabilization), like cyanuric acid.

The Crystal clear sustainable Aqua Biolight structured, energized, healthy, healing, living and vital water gives health, beauty and enjoyment of life. Fully automatic and cannot be overdosed and results in significant lower chemical, energy and maintenance costs.

Whether the public pools are equipped with Aqua Biolight, Oxygen generator, back-up UV Generator and/or an UltraSonic device, ideally it needs a return that goes to the bottom of the deep end of the pool as this will allow the longest amount of contact time with the water to be effective.

Please read also: “One CDC study found that more than 10% of routine inspections of public pools, hot tubs/spas, and water playgrounds (for example, at hotels/motels and waterparks) led to immediate closure because of serious violations, such as improper chlorine or bromine levels. Swimmers can check for adequate free chlorine (1–3 parts per million or ppm in pools/water playgrounds and 3–10 ppm in hot tubs/spas) or bromine (3–8 ppm in pools/water playgrounds and 4–8 ppm in hot tubs/spas) and pH (7.2–7.8 in all types of water) levels.
